What is the difference between the WWU Only, WWU & Summit, and Everything search scopes?

When I search Research Central, which scope should I use to search?

Answer

When you search Research Central, your default selection will be WWU & Summit, but you will have the option of four different scopes directly underneath the search box.

  • WWU Only - this scope searches items owned or subscribed to by Walla Walla University Library. Books, eBooks, reference titles, Blu-Rays, Audiovisual, and journal subscriptions. You can limit a search to online sources for items available from any location or at any time. Use WWU Only if you need a print book or eBook within the next 24 hours.
  • WWU & Summit - this scope searches everything described above, but also includes items available to be borrowed through our Summit Borrowing system. Use WWU & Summit if you need a book or other physical item (DVD, etc) and have a few days to wait. Items borrowed through Summit will take 3 - 5 business days to arrive.
  • Articles - this scope searches articles from periodicals across multiple database subscriptions. If you need peer-reviewed literature, it is recommended that you use one of our subject databases. Use Articles for an initial search to discover what might be available on a topic.
  • Everything - the broadest Research Central search - this searches all items that are available to you through WWU Libraries including items available locally and items available for request.  Use everything if you need sources, but source type and immediate availability is not important.
