How do I search for an article with a certain number of pages?

I am looking for an article that hits a minimum or maximum length for an assignment, how can I find this?

Answer

Most article databases do not provide page count as an option for filtering a search, however most will display this information as a part of the citation. If you are looking for something of a certain length you can keep the following things in mind:

  • Newspaper articles and general magazines and trade magazines may tend shorter. Peer-Reviewed journal articles will typically be more than 4 pages, and may be as many as 30 pages.
  • Gale databases display a word count alongside the other article information, so if you need a source that is greater than 1000 words, for instance, you can see that right up front. You can also use the 'document type' filter to search by 'Brief Articles' or to select 'Articles' to remove sources that are too short.

If you need help finding something with a specific set of parameters you may ask on Chat, come by the library during Drop-in Reference hours, or contact librarians at reference @ wallawalla
