How do I check Google Scholar for full-text availability?

Answer

If you have:

  • An article citation in a bibliography that you would like to read, or
  • An article in Research Central or a database for which you cannot access full-text

you may be able to locate full-text using Google Scholar on our library webpage.

Google Scholar is a subset of Google's search engine that searches only academic sources. It links to freely available full-text when available. And when you access it through the WWU Libraries website - the Google Scholar link under the Research Central search box - you also are linked to our subscriptions through databases or our publishers.

When you have a known citation, copy the article title and paste it into the Google Scholar search. This will then bring back the citation for the item in Google Scholar. Typically this links to the publisher website, but to right of the citation you will see any freely available pdf links, or the Full Text @ WWU links. Both should lead you to the full text for this article.

The video below will walk you through this process. If Google Scholar does not offer full-text availability you can try using Full Text Finder, also linked under the Research Central search box, or request an article through Interlibrary Loan
