Can I eat food in the library?

What are library food and beverage policies?

Answer

In the majority of study areas both beverages and food are allowed in the library under certain conditions.

Beverages should be in approved closed/lidded containers (Permanent mug/cup with a lid or a plastic water/soda bottle).

Food is currently allowed with the following considerations:

  • Students with food that has a strong odor or that may otherwise disturb other scholars will be asked to relocate while they finish eating.
  • Be considerate of library materials and other students and please wipe up any spills, throw away all containers in proper trash receptacles (found throughout the library, large trash cans can be found in the Library Lobby on the Green Level), and remove any food when you leave.

Following these guidelines ensure we will continue to allow food and drink in our study spaces.  We reserve the right to ask anyone with food or drink to change locations, or to change guidelines for individual library events.

Neither food nor beverages are allowed in the Library Computer Lab in accordance with campus computer lab policies.
