How do I find articles citing a specific article?

If I have an article and would like to find out which articles cite this, how do I do that?

Answer

Citations are a valuable source of information. Citation Indexing is a strategy that allows you to view who has cited the source you are currently using.

Google Scholar is a tool you can use for citation indexing. Use the link from the library website to have full access to available full text. Once in Google Scholar enter the title of the article you have and search. Once the citation comes up, if the article has been cited by others, you will see a link that says 'cited by #'.

Citation in Google Scholar with highlighted 'cited by' link.

Clicking that link shows you articles that cited your article. Google Scholar typically provides an option to search for specific keywords inside these citation results which can be helpful if there are hundreds or thousands of citations. Google Scholar will also link you to available copies of those articles including (if you started on the library webpage) 'Full Text @ WWU' links for articles that are available in our local collection as well.
