Q. How do I find articles in Nursing Journals?
You will first want to select an article database from the library’s home page. Visit http://library.wallawalla.edu and select the ‘articles’ tab. From there you may select a database if you know the name, or select a subject such as ‘health, medicine, and nursing’ to see databases that may search in that subject area.
A good database to search for nursing topics is the database CINAHL Complete. It will be listed alphabetically under the first drop down ‘select an article Database’.
Enter CINAHL and you will see the Basic Search box with Search Options listed below. Before you enter your search terms you may wish to limit your results in the following way:
- Full Text
- Published dates (you may select specific years, such as 2013-2017)
Once you have set up your search options, enter your search terms: simple is best!
As an example I might select ‘Immobility and Critical Care’.
Once you select search you will have your search results. Selecting an article title will give you further information about that article including an abstract or summary, the journal it was published in, and subject vocabulary.
If the search didn’t yield exactly the results you wanted, look at subject vocabulary in the results you got for ideas of other keywords you might try.
If you have difficulty visit the reference desk or contact a librarian!
